Training

2015_04_27

My training is “balanced,” meaning that I focus heavily on motivating the dog to want to work using things they love. It also includes setting clear boundaries, rules, and structure. The balance is in helping your dog understand these rules, with compassion and patience, but also understand that they are rules. I believe this clarity of expectations – what you expect of your dog, what your dog can expect of the world – is what enables dogs to relax, listen, and be enjoyable to be around!

Training for specific behaviors, with dogs of all ages, including:

  • basic obedience: come, sit, down, etc.
  • leash manners
  • structured exercise (fetch, biking, jogging, tug with rules, treadmill)
  • off-leash behavior, including socialization and play
  • confidence-building
  • mild to moderate aggression
  • Canine Good Citizen
  • etc. etc. etc.

The trick with training is the owner has to do it! Hiring a trainer will help you acquire knowledge and personal tips, but you still must make the time to work with your dog. If you can commit to working with your dog every day, then I would love to help!

First, sign up for a single training session/consultation. This session is where we will assess your needs, and I’ll offer tips on how I would move forward in meeting your goals. You and your dog can get to know me, and we’ll see if we would be a good fit for working together. This session lasts 1.5 hours and is at a flat rate of $100. It does not include follow-up support.

Then, if you are impressed, I invite you to sign up for a 3- or 6-month program. Each program is priced based on your dog’s specific needs, and includes:

  • one-on-one in-person training sessions with you and your dog
  • support via e-mail and telephone
  • feedback on videos you take

To get started, please send me an email at themodelmutt@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
